<-look, they both shop at record stores!

“Go ahead. I’m too cool for you anyway,” Knives Chau informs Scott Pilgrim. And let’s be honest, she is way too cool for Scott. Knives embraces new things without judgment, but enthusiasm. She supports him and his band with complete devotion, and she also kicks some serious ass. At the end of Scott Pilgrim vs. the World I found myself preferring Knives over Ramona. She fought for Scott as he did for Ramona. Where is Ramona’s dedication? Also, he dicked Knives over. Knives can be misread as a groupie, following Scott around like a puppy, but the truth is that while she may start out as a sort of lovesick teenager, she matures into a self-aware almost adult.

Who does Knives remind me of? The ultimate cool loser, Duckie! Andie’s biggest mistake is seeing past the true love right in front of her. She chooses the rich douchebag over the boy from her world. And Duckie is devoted and honest. Like Knives, Duckie is a truth teller. His love is not lust, it is genuine. He too can be misread and his occasional over the top innuendos even tiresome, but when it comes down to it, Duckie proves his loyalty. One of Duckie’s greatest lines is, “Well, that’s very nice. I’m glad. Well here’s… here’s the point, Andie. I’m not particularly concerned with whether or not you like me, because I live to like you and… and I can’t like you anymore. So… so when you’re feeling real low and… and dirty, and your heart is splattered all over hell, don’t look to me to pump you back up ’cause… ’cause… ’cause maybe for the first time in your life I WON’T BE THERE!” <-that right there, that’s some Chuckie in Good Will Hunting shit. Chuckie calls Will out and Duckie calls Andie out.

Duckie and Knives both know when to walk away. They are all about self-preservation, another thing that makes them super cool. They’re not going to keep waiting around for these morons. Enough time has already been devoted to Andie and Scott. Andie and Scott are so blinded by their obsessions with Blane and Ramona, respectfully, that they cannot see beyond themselves. By the way, Duckie is right, what kind of name is Blane!? He would so get his ass kicked by Dallas Winston.

Maybe Duckie and Knives should get together. Forget those losers!

Some more awesome quotes:

Knives: “You broke the heart that broke mine.”

Duckie: “God, Andie, Id’ve died for you!”

Duckie: “Yo man! Next time, I kick your ass! That’ll be that!”
